The Quest for Family by Jessica Clancy is an autobiography detailing the highs and lows of Jessica's life. From as early as childhood, we are shown the effects domestic abuse, neglect, and family instability can have on a young, impressionable child. Left to cater to her emotional needs, Jessica strives to make the best of a bad situation, using her studies as an escape and, along the way, her work life. She navigates through childhood into adulthood, meets a lot of people, and makes decisions that either make or mar her. I love how the author tries to make each struggle as relatable as possible so that the readers can have an understanding of each situation even if they haven't experienced such a thing in their lives. There were helpful tips littered throughout the book about how to deal with certain challenges, mostly academically. The little snippets at the end of each chapter also gave one a bite-sized piece of wisdom to take away. I love how Jessica manages to leave some professional dietetic knowledge for novice readers who are not in the field. I was able to gain some insights into health issues like kidney disease, dialysis, and type 1 diabetes without feeling bombarded with information. I also enjoyed the fact that there were no plot holes; instead, we were able to follow a steady trajectory of Jessica's growth with a few minor bumps and bad decisions here and there. Her spiritual relationship with God is also admirable, as she managed to highlight her spiritual growth without shoving "religion" down the reader's throat. Finally, I found a few errors in the book, which suggests that it was professionally edited. I enjoyed every bit of this book and would not take anything away. In conclusion, there's nothing I dislike about this book, so I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. If you're someone who has struggled through many challenges and wonders whether it will all be worth it in the end, then this book would be an absolute delight. Bonus points if you are a Christian.

Dating might sound like fun but it is not all that easy. It takes patience, tolerance, and a never-give-up attitude. In her book Mr Paper Plates (and other dubious dates), author Sue Attar shares her dating experiences. She talks about memorable dates, some that were boring, and a few that were bizarre. These dates span over 20 years and the author remembers them with fondness, irrespective of their outcomes. The initial chapters were fun to read. Some of the guys the author dates seemed to be quirky and funny. I had a good laugh and enjoyed the stories. But as the book progressed, my interest began waning. Initially each date, each guy seemed unique. Later it started to feel like they were all the same. The author’s experiences seemed very similar to most guys. I would not say it’s impossible. It is natural to have similar experiences with many people. But when making those experiences into a book, I would filter out the ones that don’t seem very interesting or engaging. The author has listed her experiences with 24 guys! If Attar had limited the list to the entertaining few, the book would have been much more fun to read. The length and the uninteresting stories were the things I least liked about the book. So, I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The book is professionally edited. I did not come across any grammatical errors. I recommend the book to readers looking for some wholesome laughs. The book will appeal more to female readers. Those ladies who enjoy dating, have dated a lot, and have fun experiences, will relate the most to the book. Interestingly, the author does not judge the guys she has dated, she humorously shares her experiences and moves on. Readers above the age of 40 will most likely enjoy this book better because most of the stories shared by the author belong to the era of e-mails and letters, and not the fancy dating apps that are widely used today.

This is a beautifully written book from the Nineteenth Century about a little girl who falls asleep and has an unforgettable dream. The book is mostly prose with poetry inserted (the characters speak primarily in rhymed verses). It is such a beatifully written book, and is not a long or difficult read, but the book can be read for enjoyment or analyzed and interpreted, as Lewis Carroll was a master of writing with multiple layers of possible interpretations.
